Recovery Coaches

I am currently designing a training program in recovery support. The training program will provide volunteers who are in mid-long term recovery with the underpinning knowledge and practical experience they need in order to provide practical support for people who are either new to recovery, or going through a patch where they find their recovery difficult.

Staff development

Along similar lines to the program for potential recovery coaches but instead focussing on the staff which already work in the drug and alcohol field. We are working towards having minimum requirements for services to ensure they are recovery focussed. Part of these minimum requirements will be staff that are aware of the varied needs of those in recovery and are trained in offering people practical, non-clinical support.

Supporting User Groups

This is an activity which is new to me, I am not yet as active as I would like to be. I care passionately though that people in user groups and/or peer led initiatives and projects, should be given support in terms of locating resources and contacts. If people wish to introduce an activity which is recovery focussed and aids the development of (ex) service users then I will seek to support them in any way that I can. The work I have done through the Recovery academy, uchooseit, Tameside college, the adult advancement network and wired-in means that I do not struggle for resources and contacts. I would like others to benefit from my experience.
